Wandering As Art is a new conversation series presented by the Friends of Lismore Regional Gallery.
The program connects artists' stories of travel with audiences who love art and experiences that disrupt the everyday. Speakers will share the highs and lows of their travel experiences through creative pilgrimage, residencies and vacations around the world, and closer to home.
These conversations reveal how taking steps out of the comfort zone and taking on new challenges can stimulate the artist to create new approaches to their creative processes. They will explore whether travel contributes to revelations and transformation, creating new ways of being, understanding and seeing the world around them. The conversation invites the artist to share the potent energy of the experience, unearthing novel questions in their practice and stating something new about the world we share.
The first session welcomes River Mueller, an emerging artist living and working on Widjabul Wia-bul land in Bundjalung Country. River primarily works with large-scale acrylic paintings on canvas, exploring issues surrounding social justice, gun violence, LGBTQIA+ liberation and identity, and decolonisation. In 2025, River completed their first mural work in Guadalajara, Mexico, featuring a 360-degree mural on four walls, ceiling and skylight. River will be interviewed by Jasmine Phillips, Arts and Cultural Officer at Kyogle Council.
Afternoon tea will be provided, and the Friends Bar will be open.
