Artist Talk and Workshop with Amanda Bromfield
11.00am Thurs 28 Mar 2019

My art practice raises consciousness and creates awareness of contemporary issues. I make ceramic objects to tell stories. Hey, Listen Up is a body of work that pays tribute to women past and present. In this exhibition I have made objects including underpants, bras, corsets and flowers, these objects represent the stories of women’s lived experiences. These stories can be as simple as the mundane experiences of daily life or  as complicated as the devastating experiences of violence, rape and death. The flowers in this exhibition are both the physical representation and a tribute to women and their stories.

The #MeToo women’s movement has become a global phenomena, a cultural zeitgeist that has enabled women a platform to tell their stories, share their experiences and gain collective connectively and empowerment.

Many of the flowers exhibited as part of my #MeToo installation have been made by women and girls who came to my studio to create a flower that represented their story. I would like to offer the people of Lismore the same opportunity to create their own flower that represents their very own story.

I believe it is the sharing and the listening of stories that creates the opportunities for positive change. And so I would like the people of Lismore to come along and make their own flower and acknowledge and pay tribute to themselves and others for telling their stories.
