Tiffany Sassafrass - Dear Dad, Memories of you Tiffany Sassafrass’ current installation deals directly with the artist’s memory of her father. It also involves her father’s memory of himself. Shortly before he passed away, Tiffany’s father asked her to make an artwork using his belongings, somehow affirming his own desire to be an artist. The result is Dear Dad, memories of you.
Her dad was a consummate hoarder. Everything we see is the result of his life’s collecting. In this poignant display, we see the collections of a life. Video tape hangs, tantalising us with their unseen content. Kept papers, sewn together with more video tape, are written on endlessly. Allowing the artist to continually offer her voice to her father.
The installation over at Norco will be evolving for the duration of the exhibition, as the artist adds items that continue to signify her dad’s life.
This exhibition honours a life, and has been a cathartic experience for the artist. What we are seeing is a portrait of the artist’s father. Exhibitions at 24/7 and NORCO art spaces and continues to 17 April 2010.
